“Meet Me at the River” is a bright, joyful abstract oil painting by Monica Shulman inspired by the colors and light of late summer and early fall in the Hudson Valley where she lives and works. The painting is reminiscent of the sunset reflections over the Hudson looking across to the Palisades which Monica sees every day from her studio window. An intuitive painter, Monica uses which ever medium will best help her express her ideas and in this piece she explores the various shades and values found in nature by using texture and layers with oil paint. Punctuating her rhythmic, gestural marks with varying shades of pink, peach, red, blue, purple, gold and yellow, Monica creates a vivid, sculptural and energetic painting.
This painting is created on a gallery-wrapped canvas that is painted on all four sides. As Monica signs her work on the back of her canvases, this piece can be hung either vertically or horizontally.
Monica has been featured in various publications including Popular Photography, Create magazine, and the Huffington Post. In 2019 she was named “Best Artist” in Westchester by Westchester magazine. Her work has been shown at the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York City, Photo LA, Art Market Hamptons, PULSE Art Fair, and the New York Mercantile Exchange, among others.
